We’ve all fantasized over the coveted “Cloud” sectional from Restoration Hardware. It was my dream sectional for our living room, but at roughly $3,000 per piece, I couldn’t justify spending the $15k. So, I went into research mode + found the best of the best of similar sofas. Ultimately, we decided on a complete Cloud dupe for 13% of the price. *Happy dance*
This is the Cloud Sectional from Restoration Hardware.
This is the sectional we went with. It checked all of our boxes:
- Extra deep cushions
- Perfect medium gray color
- Down-filled
- SUPER comfortable
- Gets amazing reviews
- Perfect size [fits in our living room with <2″ to spare]
- Unreal price
Even after delivery, we were pleasantly surprised with the following:
Each piece was extremely well-packaged + the quality took us by complete surprise. The seams are perfectly stitched + the fabric is extremely high quality. It didn’t take long for us to realize the fabric is moisture-wicking as well! Super easy cleanup for spills. The cushions have held up great for all of the use it has gotten in the past year… especially since it’s our pup’s favorite place to hangout! I can easily vacuum the entire couch + the covers for both the cushions + backrests are removable + washing machine safe! Did I mention extremely comfortable?
The only downside is the center backrest has been visibly compressed due to our dog constantly laying there to look out the window, but I think that would happen with most softer couches! Simply adding more down filler to that backrest should fix the problem.
Besides for checking all our boxes + being the most affordable, there are a few other things I love about this sectional that the other, more expensive contenders didn’t have:
- Like the Cloud, the feet of the sectional aren’t visible. A lot of the other sofas had visible feet. Some made the overall sectional look cheap + many were black or dark finishes that I didn’t love with my living room.
- We were able to do a U-shape sectional with backrests on every piece. This ensures that on a 5-piece sectional, 5 people will have a cushion + backrest to themselves. Many U-shape sectionals have a chaise or two, which typically don’t offer back support.
- Out of all the sectionals similar to the Cloud, our choice looked the least “frumpy”. Deep, down sectionals tend to look worn-in after only a short time due to their soft, cushy nature. They aren’t as structural + solid as a more firm sofa. Based on customer review photos + trying out our sofa in-store, I was confident we found the thickest + most full cushions + backrests out there.
- Some other dupes had great colors as well, but the thread color was not a great match to the fabric. To me, this makes the sofa appear cheap + not well thought-out. There are seams everywhere on a sofa + I’d much rather them blend in with the fabric.
- Like the Cloud, you can purchase the ottoman that converts your already extra-deep super-comfy sectional into basically a huge bed. Enough said.
- Reviews don’t lie….. IF you read into them. I review-stalk before I buy ANYTHING + the other dupes I found had nowhere close to the ratings of our choice sectional. I think I’ll go write my 5-star review right now!

** 1+ year update!! **
We purchased our sectional in July 2019 + here it is in September 2020! Our decor has changed a bit, but we don’t plan on getting rid of this beauty anytime soon! It has held up so beautifully + we are still as in love with it as the day we bought it. It’s our FAVORITE purchase ever!! And we have a Roomba… so that’s saying a lot 😉
** 1.5+ year update!! **
We purchased our sectional in July 2019 [very top photo w/ the red rug]. Here it is in April 2021! We got a new rug + updated the throw pillows to larger 24×24 sizes which fit the sectional sooo much better! Our dupe is still going strong, with a couple notes. We’ve noticed that the cushions have started to flatten over time. This is inevitable with any cushy sofa [+ a 40 lb. dog that loves to lounge on it], so we don’t mind it much. A good vacuum of the couch always gives it more life. I use this AMAZING tool for daily dog hair + our Dyson for a deeper clean.
We’ve also noticed some slippage of the seat cushions. They tend to push forward a bit + overhang the front of the couch. This likely won’t happen as often if you don’t have a dog/small kids that like to play on the couch. It can be a little annoying to fix [pick up the back cushion + scoot the seat cushion back], but I’m going to look into a more permanent solution. I’m thinking velcro. I’ll do a post on this if I ever get around to it!
